SUMMER RESIDENCIES
This program is a co-production effort for more established artists who are ready for a 1 to 3 week run. Projects are chosen based on their fit with the Ontological's mission, a process-focused timeline and potential for successful execution. The curators (Shannon Sindelar, Brendan Regimbal, Peter Ksander and Travis Just) seek artists who follow in Richard Foreman's footsteps to some extent--but it is crucial they have their own process and vision in composing work. The Ontological sees these residencies as a stepping stone for emerging artists who are trying to manage their growth but also achieve higher levels of production, increase their exposure to audience, press and producers, as well as produce their work in an environment that is supportive of the challenges that they are setting for themselves.
The Incubator staff provide a safety net for artists who are trying to make the next leap to self-production and touring. The Incubator provides the space, some equipment, house management, and assistance with press and distribution of marketing materials, as well as advice and feedback about the work.
Residents are expected to be self-sufficient financially-speaking and in terms of production management. Because the Incubator has limited resources, the incoming company must have their own Technical/Production and Stage Managers who supervise the load-ins and the running of the shows.
The application period for residencies occuring summer 2009 is now closed. Please watch the site for the next application deadline, which will cover fall 2009 and beyond.
